TFR 111: Spiderman ’77 (W/Guest Paul Andolina)

DISCLAIMER: This cast was recorded a year ago, before the Sony/Marvel Split, before Spiderman: Far From Home came out, and well before Endgame came out, so there are some.. unfortunate anachronisms. We kept them in because it’s a weird time capsule which serves as a stark highlight for recent events.

Hello and welcome! This week we delve into some Marvel Cinematic AU with returning guest Paul Andolina with the 1977 Spiderman Made-for-TV movie!

We also briefly discuss other ’70s Marvel Movie attempts and wax about how far we’ve come and what the future may hold.

TFR 73: Marvel #4 (2015-2016)

Hello and welcome to part 4 of our ongoing State of Marvel series!

This time we pick up where we left off as we discuss Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man, and the BIG one, Captain America: Civil War. We mostly talk Civil War, to be completely honest. Does it hold up to the rest of the universe? Who’s right, Cap or Tony? How does it hold up against the other big Vs film this year? (Oh yeah, we go there.) So pick a side and join us for Marvel #4!
SPOILER WARNING: Full spoilers for Civil War, obviously. The others we just scratch the surface, so those are safe.
We don’t into the Doctor Strange Ancient One controversy, not because we don’t care or don’t want to talk about it, but because we want to point you towards people who will do it more justice than a couple of white guys talking about it. To that end, go listen to Nerds of Color podcast episode #047: #WhiteWashedOUT with Friends of the Show Shaun (from No, Totally!) and Lexi Alexander!

TFR: The Lost Tapes – Fantastic 1994

FLAME ON!

Welcome to our Marvel bonus cast! This one lives up to the Lost Tapes name by truly being a Lost film! The unreleased, ultra-low-budget 1994 version of Fantastic Four is a thing that not only exists, but thanks to the efforts of some impassioned individuals with a YouTube account, is freely available to watch!
But why make a film and not release it? Was it that bad? Was it ever intended to be released? If so, why put so much effort into it?
Listen as Al and Austin dive into the film and come out with a few unexpected surprises.
NOTE: For our Lost Tapes riffs, we of course edit the films down to be listenable and riffable, so they usually wind up to be about half the film’s total length. And especially for this film, we recommend giving it a watch on your own, it’s a spectacle to behold. You can do so here.

TFR 16: Marvel #2 (2008-Future)

Hello and welcome!

we conclude this month, and indeed this year, with part 2 of our Marvel extravaganza!
This cast, we get to the good stuff: The Marvel Cinematic Universe and beyond! We take a look at how Iron Man and the Avengers lead-up films changed things for the better, breathing new life in the superhero genre. We also get to speak of personal hijinks revolving around the BIG film at the crux of all this.
So join our adventure as we explore more Marvel goodness!
SPOILERS ARE IN EFFECT for all films, ESPECIALLY Iron Man 3.
If you have not yet seen Iron Man 3, the spoiler code is from 1:33:26 to 1:42:56.

We must apologize for our sparse casting these past couple months, we’ve both been busy with the same thing. That’s right, Austin got married! Many congrats to newlyweds Austin and Amanda Shinn! And Albert was his groomsman/videographer and got to wear a tux and everything! We even recorded a cast in person, but it got eaten by windows. Not the last opportunity!

Also, this was Austin’s cake!

It was tasty.
